Les , are you using pelleted carrot seeds or conventional? What's your method? We have tight soul here. I can usually grow anything within reason, with enough care. Carrots are my kryptonite.

Carrots are my kryptonite. conventional, because, I buy more of a bulk seed package from Johdanseed, and pelleted seed wont keep the germ as well if you used your seed more than one year. Method...loosen that soil with manure or peat, and dont plant too deep, I use a celery seed shaker from my spice rack...in a row, or brodcast on top, leaf raked in, and firm up the seed bed. Keep it moist. Dont plant so late the heat dries out the soil. I might broadcast in a wide row in the fall like I do parsnip seed just to try it. Parsnips will almost be coming up through the snow...not quite, but it works well. My carrot is "Bolero" a nantes storage type, common now in seed catalogs, but I first got it from Johny's seeds

I ordered a case/box of onion plants from that outfit in Texas, for a May 9th delivery...Dixondale farms. For green house sales, folks will plant those instead of bulbs if they want big onions.

Les , what I planted today were Walla Walla plants. Last week I put sets in. Just generic red and yellow from the feed mill.

Yellow Sweet Spanish are what I ordered, they'll sell well, and keep long enough...I am still eating onions from storage.

I see the snow is baring up on my parsnip patch, there's frost in the ground there though, probably not very deep and fairly recent as there was 3' of snow over all of it. Cant hardly wait, lol
